Black cohosh has a long history of medicinal use by North American Indians to address gynecological and kidney disorders, malaise and sore throat, colds and cough. Black cohosh was also used as a home remedy in 19th-century America to induce menstruation, and was prescribed by physicians in the Eclectic tradition to address conditions related to women's reproductive organs.

Black cohosh is still occasionally used topically to treat skin conditions such as acne, wart and mole removal.

Black cohosh became a popular treatment for women's health issues, and today is widely used to help regulate oestrogen levels and provides symptomatic relief from hot flushes, vaginal dryness, relief of menstrual cramps, premenstrual syndrome (PMS), and depression, typically after two weeks of use.

How black cohosh works is not precisely known. The most current research indicates that black cohosh interacts with neurotransmitters such as serotonin and norepinephrine, and inhibits inflammation. It does not have estrogenic activity.

Actaea racemosa (Black Cohosh)

Fenugreek has a long history as a breast enlarger and contains diosgenin which is used to make synthetic oestrogen. It has been found to promote the growth of new breast cells and increase the size and fullness of the breasts. Of all the herbs used for breast enlargement fenugreek has the highest concentrations of the effective plant compounds.

While Fenugreek is considered the finest herb for enhancing feminine beauty it also aids in sexual stimulation, balances blood sugar levels, and contains choline which aids the thinking process. Fenugreek has been the focus of several studies concerning the treatment of diabetes and the prevention of breast cancer. Its ability to balance hormone levels aids in treating PMS and menopause. Its antioxidants slow ageing and help prevent disease.

Trigonella foenum-graecum (Fenugreek)

Thought to have originated in Southern Europe and Mediterranean regions, fennel is a herb with a mild but distinctive licorice flavour and fragrance. Although it still grows wild in surprising places, fennel is cultivated extensively in the U.S., France, India, and Russia. It has three parts, each with its own unique value: the crunchy, bulbous, pale green root; feathery fronds with the appearance of carrot tops; and seeds inside the butter-yellow blossoms of the mature plant.

Ancient Chinese medicine found beneficial uses for fennel, from congestion to conjunctivitis, to stimulate the appetite and increase the flow of breast milk.

Since one of the properties of fennel seeds is to increase the formation of milk in nursing mothers, they are supposed to be able to help promote the formation of breast and uterine tissue when consumed in adequate doses.

Fennel is rich in flavonoids, and is believed to act on the stimulation of the production of estrogen, thus promoting the increase in the volume of the breasts.

Foeniculum vulgare (Fennel)

The use of red clover as a herbal remedy goes back centuries, and the plant enjoys a history of both topical and internal applications. As a topical aid, red clover is often an ingredient in liniments and balms, for relieving the pain of both eczema and psoriasis, for sores, burns, and as an aid against skin cancer. The pain-relieving properties of red clover are likely due to the presence of the anti-inflammatory compounds eugenol, myricetin and salicylic acid in the flowers. Salicylic acid also demonstrates activity against eczema.

Red clover is considered to be one of the richest sources of isoflavones, which are water-soluble chemicals that act like oestrogens (known collectively as phytoestrogens). Red Clover is therefore used for hot flashes/flushes, PMS, breast enhancement and breast health as well as lowering cholesterol, improving urine production and improving circulation of the blood, to help prevent osteoporosis, reduce the possibility of blood clots and arterial plaques and limiting the development of benign prostate hyperplasia.

Trifolium pratense (Red Clover)

For centuries, this plant has been part of Chinese medicine. It is used to treat fatigue, inflammation, stress and high cholesterol levels in the blood. It is also antispasmodic which is ideal for morning sickness in pregnant women and asthmatics.

Wild Yam abundantly contains natural progesterone from its fat called diosgenin. This fat has similar molecular structure to that of progesterone found in women. This hormone enables the balance of oestrogen in the body. When this hormone enters and stays in the breast in great amounts, it can stimulate fat tissues to increase in size, roundness and firmness.

Dioscorea villosa (Wild Yam)
